APCO announces Industry Sector Awards winners for 2023
Ahead of its 2023 Awards ceremony, The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) has announced the winners of the Industry Sector Awards.
The awards recognise organisations promoting sustainable packaging design and innovation across a range of sectors, including food and beverage, and manufacturing.
The winners were assessed based on APCO Members’ Annual Reporting scores and their performance against the Packaging Sustainability Framework criteria.
In the Food and Beverage category, the Arnott’s Group took home the Full Report Score Industry Sector Award, for its consistent optimisation of its packaging, with material savings of 500 tonnes of cardboard and 20 tonnes of plastic during the reporting period. Berton Vineyards, in the same category, won the SME Industry Sector Award, transitioning its packaging to 100% recyclable materials and increasing the use of recycled content across primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
In the General Merchandise and Apparel category, KeepCup Australia also won the SME Industry Sector Award for its efforts in making efficiency improvements to its packaging sustainability, including designing 100% recyclable/home compostable glass pallet packaging.
Chris Foley, APCO CEO, said these achievements demonstrate the strength of the Australian industry’s leadership in sustainable packaging and how collaboration across the system can benefit the environment, economy and community.
The winners of the remaining awards, including the Sustainability Champion Award, the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines (SPGs) Implementation Award and the Best of Reporting Award will be announced at the APCO Awards ceremony.
