Quenching thirsts with special shrinkwrapping

Shrek 2 Mini Moove six-packs are recognisable due to the colourful Shrek 2 graphics made possible using specialised shrinkwrapping from SMI Pacifica.

The six-pack format presented a series of unique handling challenges because of their small size (200 mL), high centre of gravity, square sides and round cornered bottles," said Steven Warren of SMI Pacifica.

To provide the best packaging, SMI combined two of its systems - the first as the bottles leave the conveyor belt is the SMI Divipack channeliser which puts the bottles into rows ready for shrinkwrapping.

Once inside the shrinkwrapping machine, an SMI LSK 30, the bottles are grouped in packs of six and divided into two lanes for smooth flow and high output.

The system is fully integrated with the rest of the packaging line and all internal functions are coordinated by special software which minimises the need for mechanical linkages.
