TAFE SA has launched a world first in postgraduate studies with the Entrepreneurship for Food and Wine course offering flexible e-learning and commencement options, exclusive to the food and wine industry in Australia.

TAFE SA Senior Lecturer Scott Dwyer said TAFE SA was very excited to be launching a world first in postgraduate studies in Entrepreneurship for Food and Wine.

“We are looking forward to working with people within the artisan food and wine industry and assisting them to develop and hone strategic business skills to enable them to achieve superior results,” he said.

“Our cutting-edge studies and online delivery allows for flexibility within postgraduate studies which will attract students from around Australia.

”The Australian Food and Wine Industry will benefit greatly from new and existing artisans and business owners who are seeking to raise their profile and showcase their products.”

Available as both a Graduate Diploma and a Graduate Certificate, the course has been designed to develop creators of niche market businesses in the food and wine industries.

“There are people from many different paths enrolling in this course. They are from various areas of business and most want to brush up on their business skills to maintain their competitive edge,” Scott said.

“They feel the flexibility this course offers is ideal for the artisan who already has a busy workload but is keen to learn more about business.”

Run over 6 or 12 months (or the part-time equivalent) online, the course offers a program where students will be given the opportunity to grow professionally, led by a group of industry experts who have a passion for their trades.

Graduates will be able to apply a variety of skills to their own business, or a potential or existing employer. These skills include:

  • developing an existing business by introducing a new product range or service to create a unique point of difference;
  • reviewing and developing a new business concept from idea to implementation;
  • identifying and assessing commercialisation opportunities;
  • applying change management within a business to create a unique experience or culture;
  • operating a business in an increasingly international context;
  • developing and leading staff;
  • introducing a new service or product within an organisation;
  • marketing and promotional strategies;
  • financial planning and revenue control.
