The Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) is Australia’s national organisation that has been representing the packaging machinery industry for 30 years. It spread its wings in 2010 and now represents the processing industry and other allied industry groups as well.

The non-profit voluntary organisation offers packaging and processing machinery customers’ information to meet their needs with the promise of providing high-performance machines of superior quality backed by excellent support service.

In the beginning

Established in 1983 as the Australian Packaging Machinery Association and incorporated in 1990, the association changed its name to the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association in 2010. Association members offer a range of benefits and services to the packaging and processing machinery industry by working for the best interests of their customers.

The Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association is the only national organisation to represent the packaging and processing machinery industry. Members include manufacturers and importers who are major suppliers to the food, beverage, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, veterinary and household packaging industries.

Global connections

APPMA is a foundation member of the world packaging machinery body, the Confederation of Packaging Machinery Associations (COPAMA) which provides a forum for 15 national packaging and processing trade associations, in its dealings with matters of mutual concern and interest within the industry.

APPMA membership is a major benchmark of that quality. All member companies embody the highest standards of business practice and product integrity. When you are dealing with an APPMA member, you can expect the best.

Why it’s good to do business with APPMA members

Members supply packaging and processing machinery that is locally manufactured or imported, enabling their customers to have access to the world’s latest packaging and processing machinery technology. Members of the association are able to provide packers of food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, veterinary, confectionery and household products, to name a few, with packaging and processing machinery that enables them to be world competitive.

The association aims are to provide superior service and the latest products and innovations available in packaging and processing machinery.

Guided by industry principles, a code of ethics is in place to ensure the good reputation of members. Accompanying the code of ethics are the association aims and objectives designed to provide a forward path for the future of the APPMA. So customers can be much surer that they are dealing with a reputable firm.

APPMA Awards of Excellence

APPMA’s biennial Awards of Excellence are designed to recognise innovative and outstanding packaging and processing solutions. Award recipients are recognised for their contribution and outstanding achievements against their peers within the wider packaging industry.

Export Achievement Award

The Export Achievement Award recipient has made a worthwhile contribution to an existing or new export market. Contributions can include establishing a new market, achieving a significant increase in sales by both the supplier and the customer, identifiable by monetary gain from an export activity.

Design Achievement Award

The Design Achievement Award recognises the development of a packaging or processing line, or module that results in the significant advancement of packaging and processing machinery technology by either introducing a new idea or modifying an existing principle. The design concept and implementation are weighted highly in the award decision, where better business performance must be achieved.

Customer Partnership Award

The Customer Partnership Award has a major emphasis on the customisation of packaging and processing machinery which is required to suit a customer’s individual needs. The winner, individual or team, must be able to demonstrate that the end user has experienced increased sales, increased plant efficiency and profitability.

Imported Equipment Award

The Imported Equipment Award is designed to recognise the efforts of a company that promotes their overseas principal’s equipment in the Australian market, where the equipment in itself represents a high standard of excellence in every respect relevant to the industry consistent with the standard applied.

Best New Product Award

The Best New Product Award is designed to recognise the most innovative product or equipment in the packaging and processing industry that is launched in Australia for the first time during AUSPACK PLUS 2013. Key deliverables to be recognised as Best New Product include the following criteria: the equipment or product must have proven efficiency and productivity gains, be innovative and have proven and improved cost of ownership.
