World Accreditation Day

Each year, World Accreditation Day is celebrated on 9 June. This year’s theme is Accreditation - Supporting Safe Food and Clean Drinking Water.

NATA - The National Association of Testing Authorities - says the celebration is significant “because accreditation plays such an important part in the safety of the food and water we consume”.

“Because of accreditation, Australians can have confidence in the quality, safety and authenticity of the food they eat and the water they drink,” NATA said. “This confidence is gained through the application of food safety management systems, supported by credible testing and inspection regimes.”

NATA has been recognised by the Australian Government as the sole national accreditation body for assessing competent laboratory practice since 1947.

In NATA’s peer-review accreditation process, experts in specialist fields conduct assessments of laboratories and other science-based facilities.

NATA represents Australia in the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). ILAC and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) are the sponsors of World Accreditation Day.

As part of the celebrations for World Accreditation Day, ILAC and IAF have produced a YouTube video explaining the benefits of accreditation.
