Qld Premier’s Sustainability Award for biogas-recovery project
Meat renderer AJ Bush & Sons (Manufacturers) has won the Business Eco-efficiency Award at the Queensland Premier’s Sustainability Awards.
The Award is granted “for outstanding performance in improving its operational efficiency by applying environmentally beneficial processes, systems or practices.”
AJ Bush & Sons won the award for a biogas-recovery project at the company’s Beaudesert rendering plant. Wiley worked closely with AJ Bush to design, engineer and implement a recovery system that will direct wastewater from the rendering process to a number of covered anaerobic ponds. Methane gas from the ponds will be collected to power two 500 kW generators, producing one third of the electricity used on site.
Wiley Managing Director Tom Wiley extended congratulations to David Kassulke and the AJ Bush team. “This award and the improvements this project will bring are testament to their commitment to creating a more eco-efficient manufacturing future,” Wiley said.
