Hake takes the cake for Brisbane’s fish and chips
Hake is the fish of choice for Brisbane fish and chip shops, takeaways and cafes, according to Brisbane Wholesale Foods (BW Foods). The company released a report on its top product lines that shows the top-selling hot chips, frozen fish, snack, oil and other lines for the first quarter of 2013.
According to the report, Brisbane families tucking into fish and chips are most likely to be eating I&J Yellow Dot Deboned Hake and Harvest Choice 13 mm chips. The chips are most likely to be deep fried in Golden Deer Canola Oil. Premium Squid Tubes are the second most popular seafood product.
Chips imported from the US are gaining popularity, with Lambs USA Chips A Grade coming in as the third most popular hot chip line.
While still a firm favourite, the Chiko Roll was bumped off the top spot in the snack department by Hand Made Large Potato Scallops.
In top hotels and restaurants, the top-selling fresh fish was salmon fillets (skin on), followed by Huon whole salmon.
Based in Murrarie in Brisbane, BW Foods is a wholesale food distributor specialising in smallgoods and frozen seafoods. Via its subsidiary Seaborn Fresh Seafoods, it is a major supplier of fresh seafood to hotels and restaurants around Queensland.
