FSANZ considers changes to food laws
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today released its latest batch of proposed changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.
Among the changes considered are: approval of a GM herbicide-tolerant soybean; raising the residue limit for the antibiotic oxytetracycline in food; introduction of nisin as a preservative in processed meat products; and the use of the enzyme Asparaginase to reduce acrylamide formation in baked foods.
Public comment on the changes is invited, with the deadline for submissions on 19 September 2007. Details of all the assessments can be found on www.foodstandards.gov.au.
