Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has released consultation papers on proposed cost recovery arrangements for health claims applications and proposed changes to its Application Handbook.

According to Steve McCutcheon, FSANZ’s CEO, the proposed cost recovery arrangements were similar to those proposed earlier this year for other types of applications.

“The proposed health claims standard is currently being considered by the ministers responsible for food regulation and cost recovery arrangements need to be in place if a proposed standard is gazetted next year,” McCutcheon said.

FSANZ has also called for submissions on proposed changes to the FSANZ Application Handbook.

“FSANZ has sought to improve the quality of guidance it provides to potential applicants,” McCutcheon said. “Many of the changes to the handbook relate to mandatory information requirements.

“FSANZ is consulting on these changes with government agencies and is notifying stakeholders. Members of the public are welcome to provide comments.”

The closing date for submissions on both matters is 6 December 2012.
