4 Pines Brewing signs up for sustainability project
Landcare Australia has announced it is partnering with 4 Pines Brewing Company to deliver a project that will enhance sustainable agriculture outcomes in the brewer’s supply chain. This project marks the launch of a commitment 4 Pines is making to 1% for the Planet.
1% for the Planet is a global organisation that exists to ensure the planet and future generations thrive. As a member of 1% for the Planet, 4 Pines is donating 1% of its revenue from three of its beers (Pale Ale, Pacific Ale & Extra Refreshing Ale) to Landcare Australia and two other not-for-profit organisations.
4 Pines is also one of only two certified B-Corp Brewers in Australia. Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and accountability to balance profit and purpose.
4 Pines said it wants to use its business as a force for good.
Over the next couple of months, Landcare Australia will engage Ryefield Hops farm in southern NSW, which provides hops to several Australian breweries, to identify its sustainability needs. Based on the outcomes of this needs analysis, in 2021, Landcare Australia will design and deliver an on-ground agriculture project that demonstrates 4 Pines’ commitment to sustainable agriculture in Australia.
4 Pines Chief Brewer Chris Willcock said malt and hops are integral to the beer they brew.
“One bad season can be detrimental to growing conditions, which can have a knock-on effect on our end. By supporting our growers through Landcare Australia, we will be helping to ensure that our key supply partners’ livelihood is secure, their soil is healthy and that our beer will continue to taste great,” he said.
Kellie Langbecker, 4 Pines Chief of Community and Culture, said as a B Corp, community means more to the company than just those located close to our brewery.
“It is exciting to see 4 Pines used as a platform to support Aussie producers in their journey to become resilient and sustainable.”
James Link, Head of Landcare Australia Partnerships, said the not-for-profit is delighted to be partnering with 4 Pines to design and deliver this sustainable agriculture project.
“4 Pines’ commitment to the environment through 1% for the Planet and as a certified B Corp, coupled with Landcare Australia’s experience working with brands to enhance sustainability outcomes in supply chains, makes this a very strong collaboration,” he said.
“We want to leave the world better than we found it, and what better way to do that than within our own supply chain. As a community-minded brewery, collaborating with Landcare Australia was a no-brainer. We are looking forward to seeing what long-term impact this project has on wider communities, our suppliers and the environment,” Todd Atkinson, 4 Pines CMO, said.
