GM-sourced processing aid for brewed beverages, call for comment
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for comment on an application to permit the use of a processing aid for use in brewing.
The application is seeking approval of an enzyme sourced from a genetically modified (GM) microorganism, GM Trichoderma reesei (T. reesei), containing the prolyl oligopeptidase gene from Aspergillus niger (A. niger).
The enzyme is proposed for use as a processing aid in the production of brewed beverages.
Based on FSANZ’s assessment, no public health and safety concerns were identified under the proposed use conditions.
To have your say about this proposal, visit the FSANZ Consultation Hub. Submissions close at 6 pm (AEDT) on 24 January 2025.
FSANZ will consider all feedback received through this submission process before deciding on whether to approve the application.
