Biomedal GlutenTox Stick kit for gluten detection

Key Diagnostics has available the Biomedal GlutenTox Stick kit for the semiquantitative detection of gluten in food and beverages and on surfaces.

The simple-to-use strip test can be used to directly swab food production surfaces for the presence of gluten residues after cleaning, with results in 10 min. By using different dilutions of foods and ingredients, gluten content can be assessed in less than 1 h.

Biomedal claims its detection limit of 3 ppm makes it a sensitive and rapid test, giving assurance for any gluten-free claims.

The kit is based on a new anti-gliadin-33-mer monoclonal antibody (G12) that is specific to the most immunotoxic fraction of gluten (33-mer peptide) and the most reactive fragment for coeliac patients. It reacts to prolamins of wheat (gliadin), barley (hordein), rye (secalin) and, unlike some other kits, oat (avenin), and is suitable for testing hydrolysed foods.

GlutenTox does not cross-react with soy, rice or corn, thus avoiding false positive results. The company claims the kit does not suffer from false negatives.

GlutenTox kits come in a 25-test pack size and can be stored at room temperature.
