Beneo-Palatinit presented tooth-friendly beverage applications with Palatinose at this year’s Drinktec in Munich.

In the past, manufacturers have encountered concerns with sweeteners giving poor mouth feel and gastrointestinal intolerances, but Palatinose has a similar sweetening profile to sugar and is claimed to provide a solution to these challenges.

Palatinose has been available for three years and it can be used in a number of beverage applications such as sports drinks, dairy, beer, tea and chocolate-based drinks.

The fully digestible, low GI carbohydrate (GI 32) provides prolonged energy release in the form of glucose while being completely tooth friendly, as approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Derived from sugar beet, Palatinose is a disaccharide; the white, crystalline powder has the same caloric value as sugar and a similar sweetness.

Marketed products with Palatinose now include Rauch Nativa Natural, a low-calorie, non-carbonated iced green tea; Ovolinos by Wander, a calcium-enriched chocolate powder in tablet form; the sports drink AiQa, a water-based beverage with mineral complex matched for men and women; and Rosbacher Drive from the Hassia company, a beverage providing energy especially for mental performance.

Palatinose also delivers the right kind of energy in 3 Action sports foods from Luked in Belgium and the Netherlands, whose product range includes a carbohydrate gel, various instant sports drinks and an energy gel for various types of activities.
