Launch of 100-year-old Barossa wine
A Barossa winery has launched a limited edition century-old fortified wine onto the market.
Seppeltsfield Barossa unveiled the 1925 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny as the latest addition to its historic Centennial Collection, which represents an unbroken lineage of single vintage Tawny dating back to 1878. The wine’s release coincides with the day the Seppelt family moved into the homestead in 1851.
The 1925 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is the 48th consecutive release from the Centennial Cellar, according to Fiona Donald, Chief Winemaker at Seppeltsfield.
“As custodians of the Seppeltsfield Centennial Collection, we are proud of the amazing legacy and vision of Benno Oscar Seppelt, son of our founders Joseph and Johanna Seppelt, dating back to 1878,” she said.
Donald described the wine as having a deep mahogany colour, with a vibrant amber edge. It also has “lingering flavours of bittersweet dark chocolate and hazelnuts”.
“The freshness and length is driven by blood orange acidity,” Donald added.
The Seppeltsfield 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is the first wine to be inducted into the James Halliday Hall of Fame.
The 1925 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is available in a 100 mL format in a black wooden gift box. Each bottle is individually numbered and authenticated for collection purpose, with signatures from Seppeltsfield’s Executive Chairman and Proprietor, Warren Randall, as well as the great-great grandson of Joseph and Johanna Seppelt, Bill Seppelt.
