Recognising labelling and decoration in packaging design
The 2019 Packaging Innovation & Design Awards (PIDA) will include a new award category for labelling and decoration.
The Design Innovation of the Year Award – Labelling and Decoration is a WorldStar Packaging Awards category, and will recognise organisations that have designed innovative labelling and decoration for packaging. This can cover food, beverage, health, beauty and wellness, domestic and household, and emerging areas including Save Food Packaging Design and Sustainable Packaging Design.
Judges are looking for the addition of content to a pack which creates a unique or innovative appearance, function or communication. This may include labels, sleeves, self-adhesive, wet gum, in-mould flexible labels, flexowrap, embossing, adhesive embellishments, tags, coding/markings, etching, directly applied inks or a combination of printing processes.
The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) and Packaging New Zealand have also introduced a new Accessible Packaging Design category to the PIDA program, which recognises packaging that is accessible, intuitive, easy to open and innovative.
Applications for the inaugural Labelling and Decoration award category will close on 8 March. The PIDAs are the exclusive entry point for ANZ for the WorldStar Packaging Awards.
