Australia and New Zealand shine at Worldstar Packaging Awards

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) has announced that Australian and New Zealand companies received the third-highest number of wins in the world behind Japan and Germany at the Worldstar Packaging Awards.

This is the third year in a row that the region has dominated the global awards program, a reflection of the innovative packaging being developed in the Southern Hemisphere. Only Australian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) award winners are eligible in the region to enter the global WorldStar Packaging awards, run by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

The most recent WorldStar Packaging Awards attracted 435 entries from 41 countries and 35 judges determined 214 winners for the 2024 round of the awards program.

According to Nerida Kelton, AIP Executive Director, ANZ PIDA winners were recognised with 16 awards across eight categories, including Packaging Materials & Components, Food, Other, Household, Health & Personal Care, E-Commerce, Labelling & Decoration and Alcoholic Beverages.

The DualPakECO certified compostable food trays (Confoil/BASF) and Wine Protector Packaging (Planet Protector Packaging) were recognised across multiple categories.

First-time entrant Australian Organic Food Co was also recognised for the Minestrone Soup mono material retort pouch (Flavour Makers & Toppan).

“The continued global recognition of Australian and New Zealand packaging designs is a testament to the strict criteria and judging process of our annual Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards program and the supporting work undertaken by the AIP to ensure that our winners enter the WorldStar Packaging awards each year. We look forward to celebrating the winners on the 15th of June at the WorldStar Packaging Award ceremony which will be held alongside of ProPak Asia in Thailand,” Kelton said.
