Haigh's invests $25K in training for workers
Adelaide company Haigh’s Chocolates is investing $25,000 to train 10 of its workers. The federal government has co-contributed a further $25,000 so the workers can complete a Certificate IV in Competitive Manufacturing.
The funding was made available through the National Workforce Development Fund, which will see the government investing $700 million over five years to train workers in nationally-endorsed qualifications and skill sets. Industry co-contributions will supplement the funding, with smaller businesses receiving greater government support.
Senator Chris Evans, who visited the Haigh’s factory on 15 May, said the Gillard government believes working in partnership with industry is the best way to target its training investment.
“We don’t believe in training for training’s sake - we believe in training for jobs,” said Senator Evans.
“Putting industry at the heart of the training process means we deliver the skills that industry is crying out for.”
