Peanut processors trained for confined spaces
Fire protection specialist Wormald has completed a comprehensive confined space training project for the Peanut Company of Australia (PCA), providing employees with the necessary training to safely enter confined spaces during the normal course of their work.
Usually defined as places with difficult access, limited visibility and poor ventilation, confined spaces in the workplace can present a significant safety risk. With PCA involved in all aspects of the peanut processing chain, its vast facility incorporates a number of confined spaces. These confined spaces exhibit a variety of risks and include large silo storage areas as well as underground process areas, such as elevator pits.
Very much a hands-on course, Wormald’s confined space training aimed to equip PCA’s employees with the knowledge and skills to safely enter and operate in confined spaces, avoiding exposure to hazardous substances, flammable or explosive conditions and addressing other safety or health issues.
“The training was invaluable for our staff who are required to work regularly in these smaller spaces,” said Steve Magnussen, WHS&E/HR Manager, Peanut Company of Australia. “We strive to keep our team up to date with the latest standards and legislation to ensure everyone involved, as well as the company itself, fulfils their OHS obligations. Training forms a large part of this process.”
As well as its confined space training, Wormald provides PCA with fire and evacuation training and fire team training. Wormald’s training is in line with the latest Australian Standards and Occupational Health & Safety practices.
