The Harry Lovell Award has been handed out

Tuesday, 29 March, 2011

In 2006, The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) established the Harry Lovell Award in recognition of outstanding achievement by a student in the final examinations leading to the Diploma in Packaging Technology.

The Harry Lovell Award has only been presented twice before - in 2007 to Sarah Squire from Recochem and in 2009 to Nina Cleeve-Edwards, Packaging Ecodesign Specialist, Nestlé Research Center, Switzerland. The AIP is pleased to announce that it has been awarded again for 2010.

The winner for the 2010 Harry Lovell Award is Misbah Khan, Packaging Technologist, PZ Cussons, Melbourne.

Pierre Pienaar, National President of the AIP, said that “there is an important role for packaging technologists in the industry today and awards like the Harry Lovell Award allow technologists to be recognised for their outstanding contributions to a company”.

“It is our responsibility to provide people with educational opportunities today, to meet the demands of the workplaces of tomorrow. Education is for life - it is an investment that cannot be lost, spent or taken away. Distance learning does demand self-discipline and the ability to apply oneself constantly to one’s studies; Misbah accepted this challenge and has done exceptionally well over the past number of years,” Pienaar said.

“The AIP National Board commends Misbah Khan on his academic excellence. He was a clear choice for the Harry Lovell Award and I encourage him to consider further academic studies.

“Packaging Technologists play such an important role in the current environmental debate and having young, smart, passionate and informed persons such as Misbah can play a key role in tackling those important issues and maybe doing something about them in his current place of employment.

“Misbah is a credit to the profession of packaging technologists in the enthusiasm and intellect he brings. As this year’s winner of the Harry Lovell award, Misbah has set a high standard as well as an encouragement for others to upgrade their skills with the Diploma of Packaging,” Pienaar said.

The AIP National Board wishes Misbah well in his future endeavours and hopes that all of his hard work results in an enjoyable career in the packaging industry for many years to come.
