Submissions invited on phytosterol-enriched cheese pack size

Tuesday, 11 September, 2012

Submissions are invited on an application to remove restrictions on package size for low-fat, phytosterol-enriched cheese.

Kraft Foods Australia has applied to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) to remove a requirement that phytosterol-enriched cheese must be sold in individual portions no greater than 50 grams.

“FSANZ has assessed the safety of phytosterols and believes there are no public health or safety concerns related to removing the size restriction,” said FSANZ CEO Steve McCutcheon. “Removing this restriction is likely to give consumers more convenient and cost-effective access to phytosterol-enriched cheese products.”

“FSANZ welcomes comments from government agencies, public health professionals, industry and the community on the application,” McCutcheon said.
