The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) sponsors the gold 2009 Southern Cross Judges Rationale Award which was won by Vincent Chan.
The Southern Cross Awards is a national packaging competition aimed at tertiary students studying design at universities, TAFEs and private colleges. Students are provided with briefs, developed by the sponsors, and are required to produce innovative solutions to packaging design
The Judges Rationale Award is for the student that best produced excellence in research, documentation and presentation of their rationale. Vincent Chan met all mandatory requirements specified in the brief. The name of his entry was Pooch.
The concept of Pooch was supported by extensive research into the current retail market. Justification of design choices, branding, graphics and structure were given based on the findings from research with the target audience. The rationale was presented in a logical and clear format with excellent use of headings and diagrams. The design of the rationale complemented that used on the package.
