National Sustainable Food Summit
3 Pillars Network will convene the 2nd National Sustainable Food Summit in Sydney on 3-4 April 2012. The summit is a direct response to calls from across the food industry for urgent and serious conversation about the sustainability of Australia’s food system.
The summit will continue the discussion from the 2011 summit, which focused on the challenges and issues within our current food system. The 2012 summit will explore and define new frameworks and emerging solutions that will ensure a sustainable and resilient food system for Australia now and in the future.
As well as panel sessions, small facilitated working groups, led by experts, will focus on specific issues. With a strong focus on participation - both prior to and during the event - the summit will draw on the diverse knowledge and collective expertise of all attendees. A series of reports will be generated post-event.
In addition to the summit, a series of preconference workshops will run on 2 April. These workshops have been designed to bring participants up to speed on current issues and the discussion from the 2011 summit.
The summit will be led by international and Australian experts such as Jeremy Rifkin (Foundation on Economic Trends), Colin Chartes (International Water Management Institute), Olivier De Schutter (UN Special Rapporteur on The Right to Food), Julian Cribb (Science Communicator), Michael McAllum (Global Foresight Network), Robert Pekin (Food Connect), Simone Tully (OBE) and Kaelene McLennan (Simplot).
