EquiTherm wins Bavarian Energy Prize for 2012
Krones AG has been awarded the Bavarian Energy Prize for 2012. The company was presented with the award on 18 October for its energy-efficient EquiTherm brewing system.
“Here, the scientifically and technically possible in terms of maximally efficient energy utilisation is achieved by rigorously interlinking all energy conversion functions,” said Martin Zeil, Bavaria’s Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. “Outstanding new ideas like this guarantee an innovation-driven energy turnaround.”
Beer production requires substantial quantities of thermal and electrical energy which cannot readily be reduced. The EquiTherm system takes energy out of the brewing process at an appropriate point and puts it back into the system at another point. This increases the energy recirculation capability, which can give savings of up to 30% thermal energy and 20% electricity.
Krones came in ahead of 166 other entries to take out the prize.
