Call for Augusta Zadow scholarship applications
Applications for the 2013 Augusta Zadow scholarships are now open. The two scholarships of up to $10,000 each are awarded annually to assist with workplace health and safety improvements undertaken by, or for the benefit of, women in South Australia.
“We are looking for individuals or projects that can help make a difference to women’s safety at work,” said Bryan Russell, Executive Director of SafeWork SA.
“The scholarship money will help the recipient advance their workplace safety proposal through further education, research or developing a solution to a work health and safety issue faced by working women.”
The scholarships are named after Augusta Zadow, who became South Australia’s first female Inspector of Factories in 1895. An active trade unionist and suffragist, Zadow played a crucial role in securing better conditions for factory workers, particularly women and children.
“Many of the working conditions we all now take for granted are due to the efforts of Augusta Zadow,” Russell said.
Applications must be submitted by 27 August 2013. More information on the scholarships can be found here.
