Bioplastics Pavilion at packaging exhibition

Wednesday, 06 October, 2010

The AUSPACK PLUS packaging exhibition will continue with the Bioplastics Pavilion that was introduced in 2009.

With the plastics area continuing to grow each year at the exhibition, the pavilion allows industry experts to come together under one roof to help the visitors understand bioplastics.

The pavilion will consist of members of the Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA), which is the representative body for the bioplastics industry in Australia and New Zealand.

The leading bioplastics companies that will be exhibiting on the pavilion are: Amcor, BASF Australia, BioBag Australasia, BIOPAK, Cardia BioPlastics, Innovia Films, Nature Works LLC and Plantic Technologies.

According to Rob Keen, Event Director of AUSPACK PLUS, the packaging industry is increasingly being asked to use products that have a renewable resource component and are biodegradable and compostable.

“The bioplastics industry has developed rapidly in recent years, companies are expanding their production capacities and product offerings. The AUSPACK PLUS Bioplastics Pavilion will enable members of the industry to see an extensive range of products and technologies that are available in Australia,” Keen said.

According to Alan Adams, President of the ABA, the AUSPACK PLUS Bioplastics Pavilion provides a destination within the show for all interested show visitors.

“Being part of the pavilion ensures that volume and quality of foot traffic is maximised. Additionally, it is a great opportunity to mix with our industry partners,” Adams said.

“Innovia Films will be showcasing NatureFlex compostable cellulose-based film at the pavilion and they will be showing samples of current and new technologies along with samples of their key successes in European, American and local markets,” he said.

Richard Fine, Managing Director of BioPak, also added that the Bioplastics Pavilion provides a single location to showcase the developments in the field of bioplastics and sustainable packaging technology.

“Companies considering bioplastic packaging have the opportunity to explore and compare a wide range of materials and solutions. Members of the Australasian bioplastics association are all focused on building awareness and educating business and consumers about the benefits of bioplastic packaging. We all subscribe to a code of conduct to promote the Australian bioplastics industry. All members in one area under the ABA pavilion provides potential customers the confidence that material and product claims are validated and meet industry standards,” Fine said.

AUSPACK PLUS will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from Tuesday 22 through to Friday 25 March 2011.
