Australia’s big food retailers voice support for GS1 Recallnet
Four of Australia’s largest food retailers have voiced their support for GS1 Recallnet and urged their partners to register to use the portal.
Representatives from Coles, Woolworths, Costco and Metcash (the parent company of IGA) signed the open letter, which appears on the GS1 Australia website.
“For suppliers, the online portal makes it easier to accurately issue these notifications to customers in a timely manner, speeding up the information flow, eliminating confusion and saving money,” the letter said. “As a result, recalled products can be quickly removed from sale and supply, thereby protecting the brand and consumers.
“We are now encouraging all of our partners to work with us by registering to use the portal,” the retailers said.
GS1 Australia administers GS1 Recallnet on a cost-recovery basis, the letter said, and has fees as low as $120 per year. Full training, including mock recalls, is available.
Businesses can register for GS1 Recallnet online.
