ACCC carbon price claims webinar for small businesses

Wednesday, 15 August, 2012

Small businesses will have the opportunity to ask questions and get guidance on carbon price claims with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC’s) interactive webinar.

Hosted by ACCC deputy chair Dr Michael Schaper, the webinar will take place on Thursday 16 August from 10.00 AM AEST. The ACCC will provide guidance on carbon price claims and address some of the key issues experienced by small businesses since 1 July.

The ACCC is encouraging small business owners to prepare their questions and sign up online.

“While the ACCC is generally confident businesses understand their obligations, the webinar is a chance for them to find out more about their rights and responsibilities when making or considering carbon price claims,” Schaper said.

Claims about the impact of the carbon price on price rises must be truthful and have a reasonable basis, the ACCC advises. The ACCC can act against businesses that contravene the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 by making misleading claims linking price increases to the carbon price. However, the ACCC does not formally monitor, set or restrict price rises relating to the carbon price.
