Recycling lab testing paper-based solutions
Koehler Innovation & Technology, part of the Koehler Group, has invested in the research and development of sustainable and recyclable paper-based solutions through a new recycling laboratory. European paper industry association Cepi developed the Cepi Recyclability Test Method Version 2 while the Paper Technology Foundation developed recyclability testing according to PTS‐RH 021 ‐ Cat 2. These methods can now be applied in the recycling laboratory using a Somerville fractionator screen, making it quicker and more straightforward to evaluate papers and product concepts in terms of recyclability and suitability for the circular economy.
Each step of the recycling process can be replicated in the lab, from defibering, fractionating and sorting, to evaluating filtrates and visually analysing sheet formation, including visual inhomogeneities and tackiness. Koehler Innovation & Technology’s analytics department will also be able to carry out additional in-depth analysis to obtain a more comprehensive picture of established test methods.
Markus Wildberger, Corporate Director of Technology at Koehler Innovation & Technology, said the company assists with developing raw materials into finished products with comprehensive analysis and characterisation processes.
The company is part of a cross‐industry alliance, 4evergreen, that aims to strengthen synergies between companies committed to promoting low‐carbon and fibre‐based packaging for the circular economy.
