ABB IRB 120 multipurpose cleanroom industrial robot

ABB has launched a cleanroom version of its multipurpose industrial robot. The six-axis IRB 120 minimises the potential for contamination of the manufacturing area and the components being processed.

Compact, agile and lightweight, the IRB 120 is suitable for stringent cleanroom environments such as those in electronics and pharmaceutical industries and in particular for material handling and assembly applications.

The robot has been tested and certified by the Fraunhofer-IPA institute as cleanroom ISO 5 (Class 100). It can be mounted at any angle, either in a cell, on top of a machine or close to other robots on the manufacturing line. ABB claims it performs short cycle times and is accurate.

The ABB IRC5 compact control comes as standard with the robot, featuring superior path motion, user-friendly FlexPendant programming, RobotStudio offline programming, flexible RAPID language and good communication capabilities.

ABB acknowledges that cleanroom manufacturing can be a challenge, but claims its robot can accurately and reliably generate high production outputs.

Both the IRC5 controller and the robot are fully supported by ABB’s global sales and service organisation.
