Sunny Queen MD: Commonwealth Games presents opportunities for the food industry

The 2018 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in Brisbane, and Sunny Queen Managing Director John O’Hara suggests this could present an invaluable opportunity for the food and catering industry in Queensland.

With tourists flocking to the Gold Coast in April, local food service and catering businesses will have the opportunity to widen their audience and establish themselves as leaders and innovators in the Australian food industry.

Attendees will be looking for memorable food experiences, and O’Hara is confident Queensland companies can meet these expectations.

“Queensland has long been an up-and-coming premier tourism destination. I believe the time is right for the state to grow and strengthen as a frontrunner in the food service and hospitality industry and to secure its position in cuisine leadership, unmatched by any other state.

“The Games are expected to attract an additional 650,000 visitors, both national and international, to Queensland and this presents exciting business and trade opportunities for many in the food industry. This is the time for them to show, inspire and promote their offerings to visitors, investors and event organisers,” he said.

However, O’Hara cautioned that although the mass influx of tourists will drive revenues and provide countless opportunities, food companies should also be aware of the enormous strain it will put them under. He highlights time and cost efficiency as key concerns and suggests local kitchens and catering outlets should begin their preparations as soon as possible.

“There are immense pressures involved in catering for large crowds and caterers need to consider a range of innovative options that are now available to help meet and manage the inevitable high-pressure demands of a big event, whilst maintaining both quality and budget,” stated O’Hara.

This is where Sunny Queen Meal Solutions comes in. The company provides customers with a variety of convenient and cost-effective wholesome egg products, including frittatas, egg bites, omelettes, fritters and poached eggs. These can be served for any meal, are gluten-free and contain no artificial colours and flavours.

Sunny Queen recently showcased its range of food solutions to hotels, venues and catering companies at an event hosted at Q1 Skypoint on the Gold Coast. Guest speaker and seven-time Commonwealth Games swimming gold medallist Lisa Curry emphasised the nutritional benefits eggs could provide for athletes, which is especially important in the case of the Commonwealth Games. Companies should be looking to cater for visitors and athletes alike.

“Food solutions for sporting events present a significant opportunity for our industry,” said O’Hara. “There is no doubt that by working together these two industries can enjoy positive mutual outcomes for some time to come.”
