The Australian HACCP Conference provides the food industry with a means of rewarding and recognising notable workers and organisations that ensure high standards of food safety are continuously upheld.

This is done through the awards dinner, held on the second evening of the two-day conference, and the finalists have recently been announced for the 2017 awards.

The HACCP Conference has been an industry-leading event in food safety for 23 years, and the chance to register for this year’s event and celebrate the winner’s achievements is almost over.

Held on 30–31 August, the 24th conference will feature globally recognised speakers such as Dr John Spink, Director of the Food Fraud Initiative at Michigan State University (MSU), and Craig Reucassel from the TV series War on Waste.

Maintaining food safety, quality and a competitive price forms the core of the discussions and this is furthered by the event theme: ‘Creating trust and transparency in the global food industry’.

Attendees will have the chance to learn from a range of presentation topics and network with their peers before attending the awards dinner. Nominations have now closed and HACCP has announced the following finalists in the three categories:

Category One: Ross Peters Award for Excellence in Food Safety

This is intended for those who have made a notable contribution to food safety in Australia. The two finalists include:

  • Damien Alexander, Woolworths
  • Samantha Harris, FTA Food Solutions Pty Ltd

Category Two: Leaders of the Future, Food Safety Learning Scholarship

The scholarship provides the winner with the opportunity to take part in SAI Global’s new qualification for food safety and quality assurance professionals. The finalists are:

  • Jessica Roos, PM Fresh
  • Katie McPherson, Canterbury-Bankstown Council
  • Jessica Kelly, True Foods Pty Ltd

Category Three: Innovators in Food Safety

This recognises an individual or organisation that has developed best-in-class innovations in technology, process, procedure and training regarding food safety. Congratulations to the finalists:

  • Scott Eastwood, Americold Logistics
  • Ascot Investments Limited (Trading as Purewater)

The 2017 HACCP Conference will take place next week at Doltone House in Sydney. For more information on the event and to register, click here.
