BASF Uvinul 4050 FF monomeric hindered amine light stabiliser (HALS)

Thursday, 30 June, 2011 | Supplied by: BASF Australia Ltd

The Uvinul 4050 FF is a monomeric hindered amine light stabiliser (HALS) which is registered for food contact in polymer applications. The product is compliant with EU Directive 2002/72/EC as last amended in Regulation (EC) No 975/2009 and with Food-Contact Notification (FCN) 647 in the US.

The specific light-stabilising properties of Uvinul 4050 FF, together with food contact approvals, make it suitable for all appliances made from ABS. It can also be used in packaging applications that require food contact approval, such as polypropylene (PP) food crates and bulk bags made of PP tapes.

Uvinul 4050 FF, which replaces the chemically identical Uvinul 4050 H, is supplied in an improved product form. The more compact version is said to generate less dust and provides better flowability than powders.

The product is approved for all types of polymer and food, with a specific migration limit (SML) of 50 ppb. In the US, it is FDA cleared for concentrations of up to 0.25% in polypropylene and up to 0.5% in polystyrene. For styrene block copolymers and acrylonitrile copolymers, concentrations of up to 0.5% are approved.
