Packaging lines for pizzas
Tuesday, 06 July, 2010
Ilapak has installed a fully automatic line for packing of mini pizzas for Papalina. It delivers complete, multi-lane, automatic packaging lines for a distribution system.
The line is designed to allow uninterrupted product flow even in the case where one of the multiple flowrapping machines stops for whatever reason. The feeding system automatically redistributes the product to the other machines or to a collector to return the product to the freezer. The line assures high output and eliminates product waste when one of the multiple machines is stopped.
The line handles frozen pizzas arriving in a random mode over multiple lanes by means of product diverters.
The automatic line is composed by aligning chicane conveyors to bring products in single lane; intelligent lug system for products phasing at fix pitch; flow-wrapping machine C 2000 PC with grouping infeed conveyor to place three 80 mm diameter mini pizzas into one 240 mm pack. Incoming products speed is 450 pieces/min and the production speed is 150 packs/min.
Since the products nature is irregular and slippery, it causes uncontrolled friction on the belt. Ilapak’s solution was to propose the ‘Intelligent lug system’ to provide a secure product control and higher line performance. The ILS is an alternative solution to an inline feeding system like INDY smarts belt and pull-nose system.
