Food allergy information portal launched

Monday, 13 May, 2013

A new food allergies portal has been launched to coincide with Food Allergy Awareness Week, 13 to 19 May. A collaboration between Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), government, industry and consumer groups, the portal provides information for consumers and food manufacturers on managing food allergies.

The portal was developed by the Allergen Collaboration, which was established by FSANZ in 2011 to strengthen engagement and collaboration among key stakeholders involved in managing food allergens. The Allergen Collaboration aims to improve awareness by providing consistent, accurate and clear information about allergen management to all stakeholders.

“Consumers with food allergies continue to benefit from the food manufacturing industry’s long and successful track record of working collaboratively to ensure safer food choices,” Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) Chief Executive Gary Dawson said.

“This new allergy portal is an important addition to the information and tools already available in promoting awareness about food allergies and how to manage them. The portal also allows new best practice resources to be promoted, as well as filling gaps in education materials.”

The portal can be found here. More information about Food Allergy Awareness Week is available here.
