Sustainable packaging business awarded for innovation
AmSky, Amcor’s recycle-ready healthcare blister system, has won the U.S. Plastics Pact Sustainable Packaging Innovation Award for Recyclability.
While traditional blister packaging systems contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the AmSky system uses polyethylene (PE), which is recyclable through rigid and flexible packaging streams.
“In the manufacturing process, AmSky offers a 55% reduction in carbon footprint compared to other options on the market,” explained Amcor’s Business Development Director of Healthcare North America, Ed Haedt. “When recycled, this footprint is further reduced to 75%, as verified using ASSET, Amcor’s proprietary life cycle assessment tool certified by the Carbon Trust.”
Amcor accepted the award at VERGE 22, a climate tech event in San Jose, California.
“We’re incredibly proud that our team’s work has been recognised by this award,” Haedt said.
The product has won two previous accolades — the Recyclable Packaging Award at Packaging Europe’s 2022 Sustainability Awards and the 2022 AmeriStar Award in the Sustainable Packaging category.
The AmPrima range of recycle-ready solutions for food, beverage, home and personal care and industrial products was also named a finalist in same category of awards.
Both the AmSky and AmPrima solutions, under the EcoGuard brand, provide recycle-ready packaging, reduced carbon footprint and increased use of recycled content in the manufacturing of products.
