Sustainable growth in focus at Anuga 2023
Anuga 2023 will focus on ‘sustainable growth’ as its key theme, following a digital communication campaign to make the decision. The emphasis will lie on different issues, such as how the area of tension between economic growth and sustainability can be conciliated in the food section and which solutions and approaches are globally possible. This theme will place the focus on the industry to commit to finding solutions in environmental and climate-related areas. This, along with other topics, will be covered in the 10 trade shows and in the scope of Anuga’s event and congress program.
A growing population has led to major challenges in the food industry, including meeting the rising demand for foodstuffs, particularly protein. Global climate change, water and energy shortages and the loss of biological diversity continue to threaten and pressure the food and agriculture industry. It is also affected by humanitarian and economic problems, such as disrupted supply chains and increasing costs. The need for sustainable solutions to improve the worldwide food system is greater than ever.
The theme, sustainable growth, will emphasise smaller themes such as the realisation of sustainable development goals (SDGs), the transparency and traceability of supply chains and products, more climate-friendly production, resource-saving raw material cultivation, food waste and ways towards a circular food system. Technological progress also plays an important role, because this is often a driver of innovative ideas and new products.
Anuga has various partners for the event, such as EIT Food, a European initiative for food innovations. This will allow for the most important issues of the industry to be addressed with innovations, workshops, experience areas and speaker sessions.
“The key challenge of the future will be promoting economic growth and sustainable development and at the same time making sure that the necessary natural resources are still available. In a time of disruptive change, which is influencing the global market sustainably, together with the exhibiting companies and leading institutions as well as experts, at Anuga we offer the opportunity for an intensive exchange of ideas and solutions. Our aim is to provide a holistic and international overview of approaches for a sustainable food system,” said Stefanie Mauritz, Director, Anuga.
The exhibiting companies will showcase innovations within the industry in the scope of the 10 trade shows of Anuga. Special events, such as the Anuga taste Innovation show or Meet more Meatless and Dairy Alternatives will offer insight into sustainable developments. This will allow established manufacturers from the industry to demonstrate how their product ranges are developing and contributing to a sustainable economy.
