New Zealand's meat industry student scholarships
New Zealand’s Meat Industry Association (MIA), the trade industry that represents those working in the red meat industry, has given out some funds to seven worthy undergraduate and postgraduate students in the latest allocation of its scholarships scheme.
Each year a number of scholarships are awarded to students, with those in undergraduate programs receiving $5000 per year and those in postgraduate $10,000 a year. The year’s newly added scholars in the program are studying a range of topics, including food science, marketing, agribusiness and supply chain management. Those new to and continuing in the program are studying at universities around New Zealand as well as internationally.
“As New Zealand’s largest manufacturing industry, there is a vast range of different roles and strong pathways for career progression available,” said Sirma Karapeeva, Chief Executive of MIA.
“The industry has a strong focus on attracting skilled people and supporting the development of those who can make a significant contribution to the sector in the future.
“A number of our previous scholars have told us how their MIA scholarships have helped them to secure part-time work and internships and then full-time career positions in the sector.
“The global pandemic does seem to have raised public awareness of the industry’s very significant contribution to the New Zealand economy and its continued high export revenue performance in the face of ongoing challenges.”
Scholars in the program are given access to mentorships, a networking and educational event during the year and presentations from members of the industry.
