How NSW is supporting modern manufacturing
The NSW Government is embracing advanced manufacturing with the launch of its Modern Manufacturing Taskforce and by working with the Modern Manufacturing Town Hall as a founding partner.
The taskforce is being led by Investment NSW, the governmental body in charge of state investments, and its commitment to advanced manufacturing will be on display at the Modern Manufacturing Town Hall, which is being held on 30 March at Waterview Conference Centre, Sydney Olympic Park.
“NSW already has an excellent reputation in manufacturing, with sectors ranging from food and beverage to aerospace. The taskforce will hone the opportunity we have post COVID-19 to address challenges and build a manufacturing powerhouse,” said Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade Stuart Ayres. He emphasised that the NSW Government was treating advanced manufacturing as a priority sector thanks to its relevance to a diverse range of industries such as space, medtech, agrifood, energy, technology and defence.
“The increased and growing strength of our domestic manufacturing capabilities has been a critical element in keeping our economy strong. It provides protection against future downturns and supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic.”
With regards to the Town Hall (and the larger Modern Manufacturing Expo in September), the government has said it believes that widespread adoption of new ways of manufacturing and doing business will lead to a strong, resilient industry for the state and that the event will be a way to achieve this.
Additionally, NSW has committed $250 million in funding for manufacturers with the aim of creating 25,000 jobs in the state. Companies that wish to participate will need to commit to creating a minimum of 30 jobs within their organisation by 30 June 2024. Applications are open until the end of June 2022 and must be made online through the Service NSW Jobs Plus Program website.
The Modern Manufacturing Town Hall event will see manufacturers and business leaders hosting seminars explaining modern manufacturing and demonstrations of best practices. It will be followed in September with the larger Modern Manufacturing Expo, which runs for two days from 20 to 21 September.
