Funding available for NSW companies wanting to increase their gas efficiency
The NSW Government’s new Gas Efficiency Funding program has commenced with 26 businesses having been offered a share of $800,000 to implement gas efficiency projects.
The program is designed to help businesses move past market barriers and implement gas monitoring and efficiency upgrades.
“The NSW Government offers a range of programs to help businesses and this program assists the business community in adapting to predicted gas price volatility,” Ian Hunter, deputy chief executive, NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, said.
“The program uses a co-investment model. These businesses know energy efficiency is a key part of staying competitive and are contributing $3.5 million of their own funding towards the program.
“The combined projects are expected to save over 100 terajoules (TJ) of gas, which is the same amount used by 5000 Sydney homes with a gas connection.
“Valuable data collected from these projects will also help the NSW Government to develop new methods for calculating gas savings under the Energy Saving Scheme (ESS).
“The response to the program has been excellent. We have businesses from a range of industries including manufacturing, education and health, and nearly half are located in regional areas.”
Hunter said a further $800,000 is available under round two of the Gas Efficiency Funding program.
“I encourage gas-intensive businesses to apply for the second round of funding and better equip your business to save on energy costs,” Hunter said.
Applications for round two close on 10 June 2016.
