EU heading to the Fine Food Festival
The European Union is bringing its ‘More than Food, Great Stories to Share’ campaign to the Fine Food Australia expo in Melbourne next month.
As part of the campaign, the European Union Pavilion is showcasing European foods and beverages through information sessions, cooking shows and product tastings that will emphasise their quality, safety, sustainability and authenticity.
There will be a concentration on how the EU–Australia Free Trade Agreement, which is currently undergoing negotiations, might impact Geographical Indication protection. As part of the FTA there is a request to protect 166 foodstuffs and 234 spirits in addition to wines already protected under the 2009 agreement.
A key component of the event will be the introduction of products submitted under Geographical Indication protection across five product categories, including cheeses, wines and spirits, olive oil, processed meats (such as hams and sausages), and other agricultural products like baked goods, confectionery and chocolate.
The event’s opening ceremony will be taking place at 10:30 am on 5 September. The European Pavilion will be located in the Flavours of the World hall, at booth HK30. Registration is available here.
Fine Food Australia runs 5 to 8 September and takes places in the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Register online for the expo.
