Government announces $8m energy-efficiency grants for manufacturers
Greg Combet announced the first 13 grant recipients of the $1 billion Clean Technology Investment Programs. Five grants from the Clean Technology Investment Program and eight from the Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program were announced, totalling $8.1 million.
Combet, the Minister for Industry and Innovation, said the grants will help businesses install over $23 million in energy-efficient equipment.
“Projects funded include a new refrigeration system, voltage regulators, more efficient air conditioning and new packaging processes,” Combet said.
The grants were announced at Crafty Chef, a frozen meals and finger food producer in Western Sydney. Crafty Chef received a $499,999 grant to install a new freezer system that will reduce its carbon emissions by more than 50%.
Other manufacturing recipients include a specialised engineering firm, an aluminium can manufacturer, winemakers and a producer of fresh avocado products, Combet said.
“Over coming years, the Clean Technology Investment Programs are expected to support around 3000 projects and help many manufacturers reduce their energy use,” said Combet.
AusIndustry will work with businesses to promote the programs and assist with applications. Manufacturers can apply at any time.
